KRAVET INTRODUCES NATE BERKUS – WELL-TRAVELED

Nate Berkus - Well Traveled

June 2019 – Kravet introduces its first fabric collection with celebrity interior designer Nate Berkus – Well-Traveled. A luxurious mix of chenilles, statement cotton and linen prints, intricate embroideries, and velvets, these exclusive fabrics possess a global point of view inspired by Berkus’ many travels. The collection pairs together seamlessly in an effort to compliment many design sensibilities.

“I really wanted to create a collection that felt unexpected,” says Berkus. “I wanted to give permission to explore texture and pattern in a way that lets people tell their own story, rather than dictate what should be in their home. We explored weaving techniques from around the world and also mined museum exhibits and archives for pattern inspiration. My goal was to create the perfect balance of curated pattern, technique and texture.”

Berkus takes you on a journey, presenting inspirations from across the world for a fresh perspective that mixes history, architecture and artwork. Aptly named, GLOBE TROT is a chenille jacquard inspired by a Moroccan carpet, while DESSAU, a quirky print, gives nod to the Bauhaus period and is derived from a 1920s hand-painted document found in the Kravet archive. The design was modified from its origin to highlight the angular motif accentuating its modern aesthetic. BLOCKSTACK, a standout pattern in the collection, also originated as an archival document. This bold graphic print was once a modernist design and now, with its refined stripes, is more versatile and can be fabricated in a variety of ways.

APPOINTED, an imperfect geometric embroidery, has the appearance of a hand-sewn needle point and lends itself to the eclectic aesthetic of this collection. A tight cut-loop velvet, RESOURCE VELVET offers a bit of sheen, reflective of the earthy stone colors found in nature. Incredible craftsmanship is on full display with ASSEMBLAGE, a woven chenille that is digitally printed on the surface, creating a multi-dimensional texture. INK STROKES, developed for Berkus in the Kravet design studio, depicts a loose paint-stroke and is offered in three classic colors: an inky blue, deep espresso and dark sand.

Well-Traveled includes a range of casual cotton and linen textures to coordinate with the rich print offering. WESTFORD, a versatile velvet, is offered in three beautifully saturated colors, and ADAPTABLE, a stunning statement texture are both meant to complement the more striking patterns in the collection.

The color palette of the collection reflects Berkus’ love of organic, rich, earth tones. Hues ranging from chambray blue and indigo to surf green, as well as camel, taupe and gray are balanced throughout the offering.

Nate Berkus’ design philosophy centers on the idea that your home should tell your unique story. “My hope for this collection is that a certain pattern or colorway will resonate and will help add another layer to a room,” says Berkus. “Textiles introduce pattern, but for me it’s the texture that really elevates a room and adds personality.”

Well-Traveled is an eclectic collection of versatile texture, dynamic pattern and global vision, all curated with the thoughtful care Berkus brings to every design project. Explore the entire Well-Traveled collection here.
